When I talk to brides and grooms about sunset weddings, I tell them that sunsets are not predictable. Sometimes there are great displays of colors and sometimes the light just softens and turns to subtle grays and silvers and blues. But sunset over the ocean is always a beautiful time. Before the sunset, the light often turns very bright gold and that is beautiful in person and in photos. After the sun goes down, is when the colors happen, if they do. At best you can only get silhouette photos at that time, but they are beautiful.
When you are here on Maui, make sure to see as many sunsets, as you can and take photos. Every sunset is special and unique.
It is my delight to have discovered a new wedding and reception site, right in Kihei. It is called Trinity Church by the Sea. It is built upon the stone remains of a church built in 1852 by David Malo and is also called “church without walls” as they have decided to keep the foundation and stone work that survived, and be open to the sky and trees and sea breeze.
The church is now open for weddings and receptions at a reasonable price. A covered reception hall is also available. Pews are already there, so chair rental is unnecessary. The canopy of trees provide shade and lovely lighting for photos. The site really has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
Yes, its true, that in someways, it is always like Spring or Summer in Hawaii. However, living here you do notice the seasons.
The days are longer and sunnier, the sunsets continue on rather than end quickly. It is getting more consistently warmer and flowers are blooming everywhere! We still have the whales coming by regularly, which is such a joy, and many rainbows! It is in fact, magical.
We often recommend a sunset beach wedding for three reasons:
1. The beach has less people on it than earlier in the day
2. The temperatures are cooler and more comfortable
3. Photos are more flattering taken in light that is slanted at the end of the day, rather than directly overhead.
What a sunset wedding does not mean, is that you are guaranteed a display of colors, as you often see in sunset wedding photos. This does not always happen, or it can happen quite a while after sunset on some days.
Though the beach has less people later in the day, it will have some people and there are no absolutely private beaches on Maui. Anyone may share the beach. For absolute privacy you must have a private site, not a beach site, though we do our best to select the least busy sites.
For many people, a sunset beach wedding is a beautiful dream come true.
Tonya and Robert were married on February 21 on Aloha Beach in South Maui. They had a wonderful time, laughing, playfully changing their vows around lovingly and afterwards, frolicking in the sand.
They enjoyed our Elopers Package which was everything they needed for a beach wedding for two. They even had a complimentary wedding song performed live on ukulele in the old Hawaiian Style, to which they danced their first dance as husband and wife.
Julie and Pete enjoyed a very festive Hawaiian style wedding with their family on beautiful Aloha Beach.
They had selected our Pua Mele Package with a Hawaiian ukulele musician and hula dance.
Everyone was smiling as the sun went down, the couple danced and ukulele music softly played.
